If he hurt your feelings, better not venture over to AdvRider. They can be pretty rough on the KLR. My favorite was accusing a guy of being pulled over by the police for "Attempted Speeding". :wings:

Come on, you gotta laugh! :)

But seriously, it's pretty obvious the 990 is a "better" bike and that really shouldn't be shocking to anybody. Actually, let me correct that. If I was actually going to drive across Africa or around the world, I'd take the KLR.

+1 on the Africa statement. Owning a Japanese bike, KLR, XR, DR would be a much wiser choice for extreme travel. Plainly said they are one hell of a lot more reliable than a BMW or KTM990 and they can run on any grade fuel. You can fix them anywhere. I have beaten, all to hell, my XR650L for 14 years now and it has never let me down. The KTM990 has never failed me, but I have to say it has taken 100 times more wrenching to keep it reliable, not to mention the cost of ownership is through the roof, but man what a ride.

Oh, I'm laughing.. I keep hearing horor stories about KTMs having these great show stopping problems on the trail or wherever. Just check out Christians post http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46545 But I guess that makes it a Better bike?.

KTM's are like a fine woman. You need to maintain the hell out of them, spend money on them and in return they will preform exceptionally well. Failure to treat a KTM right will leave you stranded.

All the KLR hating, BMW/KTM loving snobbery cracks me up. Reminds me of the nonsense in the Rover section...

Seriously, I could have had any bike but chose the KLR for my own reasons - we should all consider ourselves lucky to have bikes at all since they're really just man toys.

To each his own so get out and ride! :bike_rider:

Careful there, my wife is taking over my TW200 and liking it so far. I hope she continues to treat me like her "man toy" and not my bike  :bike_rider:

You got it! I love the KTM - give me a 950 with a carb' please - I'd love one for my next bike. It would be FANTASTIC in North America and Europe, but it's too much bike for the roads you find in other parts of the world. There's just so much ******** on the roads to watch out for, you gotta SLOW DOWN. And if there's one thing the KLR is good at...:sombrero:

Not to mention the maintenance... Good luck finding somebody to re-flash your EFI computer in backcountry Nicaragua. If you can't fix the KLR yourself, the local lawnmower man could likely help you out!

If you have to make the decent into KLR, get an older one, the new design somehow added 100 extra pounds, that you don't want on a KLR.
