I’ve had the Garvin Expedition roof rack on my TJ Unlimited for a bit over a year now and decide to do a bit of modifiying on it this week.
I never like the fact the floor bars on the rack bolted on top (or below) the factory welded cross bars. When I put any hard case on the rack they never seemed to sit nice and level due to the different elevation of the bars so I cut all the bolted on bars into shorter pieces and welded them between the cross bars instead of on top or bottom so the floor will be on a continuous plane nice and flat.
I took the Jeep out for a couple of hours today at freeway speeds and much to my surprise, the vast majority of wind noise is gone, I’d say at least a 75% reduction in noise.
