Late May update:

Dropping a quick update today, nothing to crazy. Got a wheel alignment last week since I put the lift on. Front right tire is wearing pretty bad, which it was doing already anyways. Looks like new tires will be coming in the next few months though. Plan is to put on 275/55r20. Not sure which tire I’m doing yet, guess it’s going to depend on budget. Driver door lock went out, part is on order and I plan to tackle that on my next free day when that comes in. Did a good detail on the interior recently as well so she’s looking clean, put on some new stickers too. I bought some G4 decals but they didn’t look to great so I’m leaving those off.

Did a short drive to a hike on some dirt road the other day, that was my first test on the new front bags and lift and loved the ride. Headed to Osceola National Forest tomorrow to go explore, so that should be a good time.

Had a great time in Osceola National Forest, did not spend as much time as I usually do taking pictures or video, but got into some pretty nasty stuff and the range didn’t bat an eye. Rode around the southeast region for the most part.

No problem! Thanks for checking it out. I wish I could give more on the actual overland build side but currently don’t have the funding sitting around to dump into it. Soon though hopefully. Until then though I will keep up with info’s new the things that I can do with the rrs as well as the adventures I go on. If you start a forum or anything for yours let me know I’d like to follow!

I feel like all I ever post about is fix this and fixed that. :/

On that note I have been doing some work this week. Started by glue down the leather coming up on the dash board. I’ve done one coat and will be doing round 2 later this week. I also started peeling the plasti dip off of the wheels in anticipation of new tires soon. I will be doing a permanent paint job on them as well as filling in all the curb rash from the previous owner. Not certain on color yet but I’m debating between black and factory silver. Just got in the stuff for an oil change so that will be happening this week as well. Been trying to work on the door lock actuator recently and have had no luck in replacing it so fast. Later next week I will be ordering the a.c. Knob covers as well being that mine are sticky and ugly. Last but not least I want to install the down pipes I bought for when I cut off the mufflers, those are another project I’m looking to tackle next week.

Official June update:
It’s the wife’s birthday weekend so you know what that means!? ROVER MAINTENANCE!! Lol. Not really, we are headed to one of the fresh water springs in Florida tomorrow for the day. I ended up getting a lot done this week. Looks like the next few weeks I might be doing a lot more, finally going to be doing some overland upgrades. We will start with what I got done....

For the simple stuff I got new wiper blades on front and rear, this was much needed especially with all the rain lately. I did another application of glue for the dash, it made a little bit of a difference but not much from the initial glue down, I think honestly it’s about as good as it’s gonna get. On a side note for windshields I managed to finally pickup a window shade to keep this thing cool on the hot days, having a black rig is brutal. I did an oil change this morning as well as piped the exhaust out with some down turns to replace the mufflers I cut off. I feel like it wasn’t enjoying the shortened pipes and since I had all but one part to do it I finally committed and got it done. Last but not least on this update I finally pulled off all that grey plasti dip from the wheels. Also pulled off the air damns off the front bumper. Below is a pic with one off one on. Gives it more of a aggressive look.

As for upcoming...
Finally jumped on tires. Went with autturo xt 275/55/r20. Also ordered the tracks and cross rails for the roof so I can mount my roof rack. In conjunction with the roof rack I ordered an awning. Benefit to the awning is we have a tent that goes up against an awning and without an awning it’s been useless. I plan to mount up my mud boards to the roof rack as well and plan to set up my cb radio too since I’ll have a place to mount the antenna. ( I go cb because thats what my buddies all have for when we go trail around)

Some before and after the roof rail install. The rack came from my jeep. Not the biggest fan of the looks of the basket itself but it will definitely serve a purpose. I do plan on getting a different rack eventually though. Tires came in this week as well so I’m trying to set up an appointment to get all the tires mounted, balanced, and aligned hopefully this week.

This is a very nice buildup!

Using a modern verhicle for overlanding - many will speak against. At least when you start travelling the world.

I did the same, using a Landcruiser 200, Supercharged V8, 4.5 Liter Diesel, 14 Airbags, Satnaviation with HDD, ESP, and pretty much eletric stuff. Bought new at 2011, buildup at 2012.

And did live over an year in the vehicle till today. It has just 2 Seats now, a fridge, freezer, watertank and bed in the rear. Just a sleeper, everything has to be done outside.

2012/13 - Transafrica over the West (Zurich to Capetown over France, Marocco, Mali, Nigeria, Congo, Angola)
2014 Island
2015 Southamerica
2017-2020 Travelling in Europe (sometimes 2 Months a year, sometimes just Weekend tours)

Have add 110`000km (68350.83 Miles) - and always did love the comfort of a modern and capable Travelling-Cruiser.

For shure, the Maintenance and Repair Bills could go higher with a modern car, when electronic stuff start to go wrong or need replaced. That can happen, but not "have to" happen.

I wish you good travels - on trails or whereever your plans lead you

That’s awesome! I one day which to travel that much, that would be pretty sweet! When it came to choosing the vehicle honestly my love for rovers just took the better of me. I never planned on getting the super charged mode let alone one as new as this (even being 10 years old now). The original goal was a discovery like I had in the past or a 1st gen sport naturally aspirated or full sized Range Rover of those same years. I know that it will come at a cost and there will be some down falls driving this particular vehicle as an overland Elmer/ off-roader but even comfort aside in every aspect of driving the rrs sc is really just an impressive ride/ rig all together. Dollar for dollar it is definitely up there in my book for being the best (At the used price that is lol). As for travel my wife lan is to stay in the states with some Canada’s travel. Thanks for checking it out though and the fees back!

Already putting the roof rack to work this week. Tires are going on Thursday and working on mounting the cb radio this week as well. Here’s some photos from this week until my next update...(also a few spares from some kayaking)

July Update-
June was a pretty good month in terms of getting stuff done and upgrades. Pretty happy with the progress. July however is starting off strong! Slapped on some new 275/55r20 autturo trail blade XT’s yesterday. Absolutely love they way they look and handle so far! Down side I have to go back and get them rebalanced due to a bad shake at 55 (Actually worried a rim might be bent but I’ll cross that bridge when we get there). Now that the roof rack is installed I am waiting for the offroad awning to arrive which should be late this month. Ordering the rest of the gear this week to install my cb radio as well as a rocker switch panel to run lights sooner or later. The wife and I are brain storming on another big project for the range that I may give some details for soon so stay posted! (I plan on going out and getting some better pics soon too)

Mid July update-
Been a good weekend working out some details on the cb and rocker switches. Both of which are ready to mount and wire.

I’ll start with tires, took the rover back twice now to the shop to rebalance tires and they can’t get rid of the shake. Judging by the curb rash on the rims from when I bought it I think I have a bent rim. On that note new wheels might be in the future. The tires aside from that have been driving great, they make it feel like a real off-roader. I am Hoping this week to take it out on some dirt and give them a test. I’ll be sure to get some better photos when I do.

For a while I have been debating on a few ay to mount a cb radio and a rocker switch panel on the rover without getting super invasive on the dashboard. I decided to go with industrial Velcro mounts on the cb radio for slower profile look as well as to provide as much leg room as possible. The Velcro was also used because I wasn’t/ am not sure if this is the final mounting location, which I think it will be (Down side to the Velcro however is the Velcro is stronger then the adhesive on the dash side. When I try to remove it, it tends to just peel off the tape lol.). The walkie portion I mounted on the dash where it is easy to grab, might need to make a more permanent set up because it sits pretty loose, probably going to get all her set of screws and tap into the actual hard dash, right now the screws are just sitting in the soft cushion material, but they hold pretty well. As for the antenna I bought a 3 foot fire stick to replace the 4ft I had for the jeep, to mount it I used a hood clamp mount I found on amazon. Not 100% excited about the mount set up but it does the job.

I took the panel out from under the steering wheel to mount the rocker switch. I wanted to mount the rocker switch here due to the opening to use for wiring behind it as pictured below. The 4 rocker fits perfectly, was originally going to order a 6 but couldn’t find it in orange so glad I didn’t! I cut out a rectangle on the panel to fit the rocker switch frame and boom! Mounted! Low profile, out of the way and doesn’t clutter the dash. My plan for the 4 switches are 1) cb radio 2) grill lights 3) forward facing roof lights 4) roof rack perimeter lights for camp.

Mid July update cont-

Another upgrade I made this weekend was my a/c knobs. They got the dreaded nasty tacky syndrome. Ordered a set of knob covers on amazon for $20 made for the rovers....besst....upgrade....EEVVEERR!! They make a huge difference! It makes the dash feel clean and new again.

Some up coming stuff. The awning is a no go, was notified yesterday that it is out of stock and my money is being returned. Was excited about having the awning, was kinda the point of the roof rails, but the wife and I have talked and we are going with a different approach. We have a big project coming up for the sport instead, we made a Home Depot order for most of the parts and just need to pick up wood this week, but we are building out a sleeper platform and drawer system. Originally I though the rover would be to short or small to sleep in, but after some measuring and ingenuity we have laid out a pretty awesome plan and we are going through with it. Of course the build process will be logged on here so keep an eye out!

So it begins! Got the first shipment of goodies for the sleeping platform from home depot and went today to pick up wood! This weekend I plan on finishing all the wood to size and hopefully start building. Also plan on finishing the wiring and the cb set up this weekend.

The roof bars/baskets are a huge improvement to the functionality of these, my FrontRunner load bars are one of my favorite additions.

You should be able to have somebody drive next to you and see if you have a bent rim. I saw a RRS with one last week that was very visible. Couldn’t catch up to the guy to let him know though.

If it’s not that, you might try having the tires road force balanced. One of my BFG KO2’s felt like it was out of round, the shop claimed they had road forced them but did it again and found two were out, it solved the problem.

I get running the CB if that’s what guys you trail ride with use and you already had it. I ended up going with GMRS primarily due to not wanting a big visible antenna, along with that hopefully becoming the standard that things are moving towards. Midland’s MXT 275 will mount under the driver’s seat with minimal mods to the bracket, and the controls are on the handheld mic so you don’t need to access the base unit. I went with the “ghost” antenna that’s only a 3” tall cylinder. It makes for a much sleeker install overall, plus it’s nice having cheap handhelds you can pass off to a buddy without a radio or a spotter.
