Looking at a northstar tc800

It’s a 1998. May be able to get it for 2500. Deal or walk? I wanted a northstar due to their reputation for being good for off road. Not Baja but just mtn roads.

I have a 2012 tc800. Looks pretty much the same. They are low tech! If it doesn't smell bad and isn't rotting anywhere, I'd go for it. They are hard to find (gently) used in my area and that looks quite clean. I don't know that prices and supply are like that where you are though.

I think the only difference between that and mine (aside from floor and exterior skin and fabrics) is the appliances. 3-burner cooktop=yay! No DSI appliances=boo.

I'll echo what Huntv said about wood rot.

Look hard at the back where the lift mechanism attaches to the roof. Make sure there is no indication of the lift attachment starting to poke thru the roof. It would look like a bulge outside at the top corners. Peer up under the lip of the roof on the outside and look for rot. I've had four previous campers with roof lifts just like that one and that's an area that usually shows potential problems. My last one was a 1998 Sunlite I purchased in 2005 and it served me well. I sold it to my neighbor last year and it's still going strong. I'd go for it for $2500.

I have a 1995 northstar that's in worse shape than that one. Try pushing on the ceiling and make sure it it's squishy as I've heard that sometimes that happens. Mine doesn't leak even as old as it is but I've heard from another northstar owner to check for that. You can also pull be mattress and cushions up and see if it ever has leaked in the past.

If you get it, definitely install a CO alarm. The heat exchanger in my furnace cracked about 3 years after I bought it and it was pumping CO gas into the camper... glad I had a CO monitor.

My 2000 came equipped w/monitors. I don't know if that's the same as the '98's. Mine's 19 yrs old now and getting pretty tired. This fall maybe it's last run along the coast from San Diego to Washington state.
