I've wanted to drive down to Mexico for a long time, ever since I saw Baja Taco's pictures and found this site... :coffee:

So, I was thinking, maybe we could organize an easy, short range expedition from San Diego down to say, Ensenada, or somewhere?
Somewhere we could travel to on a weekend, leave on a friday back on sunday. A working man's getaway if you will.
This would be great, no? :camping:

We have an experienced Baja guide to lead the group... Thanks to awalter for volunteering to lead! :arabia:

TRAVEL ITINERARY:

We will hit the coast Friday & camp. Saturday do some dirt & work our way up to the Sierra Juarez & make camp Saturday at Laguna Hanson, then head out for Tecate on Sunday for the crossing.

Anyone who wants to go and has never been, jump on here!

Let's go down to Mexico!!! :jump:

TRAVEL DATES:
Leave San Diego Friday, September 8th. Return Sunday, September 10th.

MEETING PLACE:
Meeting spot will be Longs Drug Store parking lot 444 E. San Ysidro Blvd. San Diego, CA

I'm more than happy to volunteer to lead a group for a weekend.

As of today, my first open weekend is 8/25, then 9/8, 9/30, 10/7, 10/28.

What time frame were you looking at?

Al is the man. Doc, I wouldn't pass up that offer if I were you! :D (or anyone else who has always wanted to go).

Oh yea, I should also add that this trip could be a perfect excuse for anyone who is planning on getting a VHF 2-meter radio to get on the ball and get a license and get one installed. Al uses one and it is definitely the preferred method of comm's when on a trip with him.

[Technical disclaimer: An FCC technician's license is not valid for VHF 2M use in Mexico and a mexican permit is required... technically speaking. :eek:rngartis ]

Al, it would be awesome if you could lead!
How about 9/8? :D
Leave SD Friday, September 8th, and return on Sunday, September 9th.

Thanks, I'm taking him up on his offer!
Now I better get my comms squared away :box:

Now, if only we could get some other "Adventurers" to come and join us! ;)

I know I have a wedding to be in for the month of september, I just don't know which one. I'm definitely interested, given it's not scheduled the weekend of the wedding :archaeolo

Cool. This is still in the planning phase right now so the date is not written in stone yet. It looks like Al has a bunch of dates open as do I, so find out when your open! ;)

You and I + Al = :camping: :camping: :camping:

Now who else is coming with us???

I would love to join if I can find a way to make it work. I would be coming from Colorado. Guess I would need to get going on the 2M certification and installation.

Thanks for the big build-up Chris. Hope I can live up to it.

What kind of trip should we put together? Driving dirt, finding a good beach/ocean front camp, historical, mounitains?

I would assume camping for both nights & cross back in Tecate.

Maybe we can get some more interest by starting with a date say 9/8.

My vote if I have one (again, not sure I can make it), would be #2.
