My Journey

vintageracer.....nope.....we are still here & are still living in the truck camper & have once again pushed back our departure date. After that early snowfall which dumped about 6 inches of snow on us, the weather improved immensely and it all melted, so with more work to be done, I saw no real good reason to go. I often like to say that we follow the good weather.....and it's just fine right here right now.....but I still have that itch to get going.....

ITTOG.....the groin injury was finally coming along just fine as I've been resting my body quite a bit lately but then I helped a friend a few days ago lift the mower contraption for their Kubota tractor.....now I'm back to where I was a few weeks ago.....that's just a bit depressing to say the least.....

JD.....you got that right.....

Just a quick update this morning.....a few thoughts.....a few pictures.....

It's become obvious now that there's no way that I'll finish the cabin in 2021. But we keep at it.....I've now planted 61 trees (added 2 more just yesterday).....maybe not a forest quite yet.....hopefully I'll reach that hefty goal.....

20211018_081606_copy_1200x675.jpg

I did get some work completed in the crawl space.....this task obviously should have been done a long time ago.....getting that 6 inch thick blanket insulation into that tiny crawl space opening turned out to be quite a project.....

20211018_075515_copy_1200x675.jpg

And the company that does the spray insulation returned one last time to seal the rim at the top of the crawl space.....

20211018_075526_copy_1200x675.jpg

With the camper now mounted in the truck bed, our forays into town every few days are in the topless Jeep (& sometimes windowless).....cold.....yes.....very cold.....yes.....extremely cold.....yes.....

20211018_101411_copy_1200x2133.jpg

But that's OK.....we're plenty happy & content right now.....and that's all that really matters.....

20211015_074148_copy_1200x675.jpg

As always, just thankful for our good health and our freedom to do as we please.....

Trapper doesn't look real thrilled in that pic, in the back of the Jeep. I love dogs in Jeeps pics! Scout and I are headed out this evening for a few days out of the rat race!
Hope that injury heals up soon! The older we get, the longer it takes!

Jerry, if you don't have the best views, I don't know who does. I sure dream of living near the mountains at some point in my life. However, my wife dreams of living here in the Hill Country of Texas forever. I bet she wins.

I long to live near mountains as well. Heck, I would take the hill country, compared to houston those are mountains.

Good luck getting there.

tgil.....actually Trapper loves the Jeep.....maybe she was having a bad day. That groin injury has been such a huge distraction.....a leg injury such as this was one of my greatest fears (cancer rings a bell too). I just can't imagine not getting back into the backcountry again with my boots.....and having to resort to my Jeep to get me there.....I'm trying so hard to take it easy.....

jbynum.....yea, those views are indeed fantastic and I do consider myself a very lucky man to have this opportunity to purchase this place. There's another range to the south with even more majestic mountains that I rarely post pictures of yet I often admire.....a very lucky man.....

ITTOG.....have you had any more climbing / hiking trips ? Other than my thread I'm not active on XP.....occasionally I view a few other In Progress Adventures threads (I enjoy Tim & Kelsey's videos).....I was just curious.....

PNWY.....I love the Bitterroot Valley and the river that runs through it.....I looked for property there but was obviously unsuccessful.....

BigDawwg.....one of the electricians working on my cabin is from Alaska and the other day I was noticing his license plates and how similar they were to an old set of my plates that I've kept since 1978.....I had just tacked this plate onto the wall in my barn.....the bear & the grass that it stands on I think is identical 43 years later.....

The weather here in southwest Montana continues to be sensational (for the most part) so yea we are still here.....there's always something that can be done.....64 trees now in the ground.....

I never tire of the view.....

Hey Jerry,,,,,, there is a guy up here in Talkeetna that "Collects" old Vintage Alaska Lic. Plates, talked with him awhile back, as I had found some while helping a buddy clean-up an old rental house, here in Palmer,,,,, a couple of them were in that same "Vintage", but not as "Clean" as yours, we got $115.00 for 6-of them...... go figure.

Unfortunately I have not been able to take anymore trips. I have been dealing with a herniated disc and a couple other issues caused by a broken vertebrae. I am somewhere north of fifteen shots in my back this year trying to get everything figured out. I am hoping for late 2022 but could be longer if I end up having surgery. I guess at this time I should just hope for the pain to end. I am looking forward to reading about your trip. Stay safe!

BigDawwg.....a few years I stopped in at a Jeep dealership and the salesman offered me $8,000 for my 1992 Jeep Wrangler.....he loved my old beater. Thing is that I bought that Jeep Wrangler for my oldest son when he was in high school and I (we've owned it ever since). I doubt there's any dollar amount that would pry that Jeep Wrangler from my hands. One day my granddaughter will be driving that thing. Same thing with those license plates.....

ITTOG.....damn.....that's just unreal. That makes my groin injury seem like a walk in the park. Sorry for your bad luck.....best of luck to you.....

Posting here has become a much less frequent event as the cabin is nearly complete and I'm still not on the road so maybe this random post comes as a surprise. I thought I had a renter for the cabin for the winter months but that recently fell through so I'm considering all options.....a very good friend.....she says stay here for the winter.....see what you think.....no more setting dates.....

It's day by day now.....yesterday a walk through the fields behind the cabin.....must have seen no less than twenty deer.....sometimes I think yea.....just stay.....

Having never lived where there was snow all winter, I'd have to try it! One winter, for sure! Any time you mention a female friend, there, my mind jumps to the one you loaned your chair to! No idea if it is the same one or not, but for some reason, that post is burned into my mind's eye!
As I scrolled down the pic of your "climbing buddies", I expected to see a pic from your early climbing days. It put a smile on my face to see those two!
