Need a removable ball hitch for my trailer. Where can I get one?

Right now on my trailer I have a Max Coupler fully articulating hitch on my Expo trailer. We have been letting friends and relatives take the trailer out camping and more times than not the hitch doesn't line up with the other persons vehicle so the trailer is either way to high or low in the front. I'd like to be able to make a hitch that will be able to take the place of my Max coupler when friends or family take it out. I'd like to find a 2" ball hitch (trailer side) on a piece of 2x2" square tubing I could just slide into my trailers tongue and pin it. I've looked all around the stores where I live but can't find anything. Any ideas how to make this work?

Just let them borrow your truck too!
Problem solved!

OR

If you build a 2 inch ball hitch coupler to pin on and replace the Max Coupler, just pin it with a locking pin.
Like this one.

Then you can just insert a section of solid 2 inch drilled square bar stock into the trailer toungue with a keyed pin lock and nobody could borrow it.

Oh and,
Buy one of these for your friends so when they borrow your trailer thay can pull it level too.

I just made one for when I don't need the pintle hitch (like I do when I'm pulling it behind my Jeep). It is just bolted to a 2" piece of square tubing with a hole drilled for the hitch pin. I also used one of those adjustable height trailer hitches so the coupler will line-up with the ball (like for when my wife towed the trailer with her minivan).

This is exactly what I need. Where did you find the hitch part? I already have the 1/4" wall 2" square tube steel.

Easiest and cheapest place is amazon. Just get one for 2" channel. Tractor supply, walmart, about any parts store will all have them though. I'm in the middle of making mine right now.

Copy thanks. I'll check out a few of my local places first.

I bought the hitch ball coupler part at a place that sold trailers and hitch parts. They sell them in different widths, so I found one that was for a 2" wide mount (because they also sell them for 2.5" and 3" wide mounts).

Something like these if you can't find one local: https://www.etrailer.com/Straight-Tongue-Trailer-Coupler/Dutton-Lainson/DL13835.html http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200414746_200414746 http://www.thehitchstore.com/posilock-coupler-2-ball-2-channel-p-1522.html

I built my own with two things in mind.

1. Adjustable length tongue for hauling kayaks on the trailer behind my truck without kissing other kayaks mounted on the truck itself.
2. Better security from theft, as I can remove the tongue completely and take it with me, or lock it inside the trailer.

The tongue pins in place about 3 feet back and is adjustable up to a foot longer. You can just see the pin under the front aluminum box.

This is what I use for those occasions when I want to use a ball hitch - 2" receiver tube with coupler welded on:

The tube/coupler length was calculated for towing behind my jeep and allowing the trailer to turn 90 degrees while backing without coming into contact with the jeep. If I were building one for use with wider vehicles I would most likely make it about 6-12" longer.
