New 270 Awning available.

Any thoughts or experiences with the new Ironman DeltaWing XTR-143 awning? DeltaWing XTR-143 | 270 Degree Freestanding Awning - Ironman 4x4 America
I like the perpendicular leading edge and the extra wall/shade. However, I notice the way the front ties/tensions (pulling down towards the front bumper or wheel), it seems like you are going to always want to deploy the front leg to keep from pulling it down, thus back to Ali's comment about how much the awning ultimately gets used. Also I notice that they use 1 less arm in the rear thus reducing the rear coverage compared to their XTR-71, OVS, etc.

I have thought something like that extra wall/extension would be a great addition on the rear of many awnings, both 180 and 270, to provide better coverage to the cargo area.

Not for me:
  1. The coverage/square footage is only "big" when the add-on square is added up front.
  2. The same square add-on takes extra setup time..... a lot......which completely defeats the purpose of "fast shade" that I appreciate about 270 awnings.
  3. The rear coverage is terrible for this setup.
  4. It requires poles - unless there's a lot of wind, I appreciate "pole less" or freestanding designs. I hunt or scout for hunting frequently.......so I need to be able to get back in my truck and head out.....quickly......which this setup wouldn't accommodate.

I think the extra front wall can be had with any 270 awning if it has the means of attaching wall to any sides. My Bush 270 has velcro so I attach walls as needed and can pole it out for additional coverage but it's optional and only used when sitting overnight at a camp spot and the weather required it.

Agreed, the rear coverage leaves little to be desired!

On the topic of additional coverage by the driver door, I don't see a huge need for it. Again, this is just for me and everyone is different. I don't need to cover the driver door as much as I'd prefer to have more coverage in the rear, where most things happen for me. I intentionally didn't choose the Bush 270 XT with extra forward coverage due to weight and unnecessary coverage. However, on a trailer, this would be quite lovely I'm sure. YMMV.

Just for clarity: I do think the weights they quoted you are correct. They have 2 models:
one 'with poles' that is quite like the rhino rack batwing and constructed of thin aluminum tubing (30 lbs)
one 'free standing' that has trusses for support arms like bush company (40 lbs)

I will add that a few weeks ago we were on the beach with my Bush Company 270Max awning and it was not staked out. I had a pretty consistent wind coming from the water directly into the awning. Probably about 15 MPH winds maybe up to 20 mph. The awning was rock solid. However, when I went to put it away I had to turn the truck so the awning was not in the wind. It was impossible for me to put it away alone when it is being blown by the wind. I can say from experience that was not the case with my traditional roll-up ARB awning.

Totally hear you on this one! Me too! However I'm thinking that now they have either a set of walls or you can buy individual walls, one wall attached to that section and covering the spare tire will be the fix! I'm trying to oder a wall or two when they are available state side.

I didn't know they have walls for sale in USA for the Bush 270 so I made my own using the walls that came with my EZUP 10x10 free standing awning. I simply sewed velcro on my wall and that was about it, nothing fancy. I'd be curious to see what the walls cost and if the packaging is too bulky since space is premium in my rig!!

Wondering if anyone recognizes it as a rebrand of existing tent or if it is in fact all new. At $650 it seems like it could be a worthwhile roll of the dice to see if its any good. There's not a lot of information on their website about it, and it looks like it does ship with poles and guide lines. From the pictures the swing arms look like trussed square tubing so it could be strong enough to stand freely in decent breeze.
What irks me is there are absolutely no dimensions on their website. Thoughts?

Thanks for the link - that's a great price. I emailed them for weight, warranty, and country of manufacture so I can update my spreadsheet.

At 80 SF coverage (listed on their site), it's basically a direct replacement of my Foxwing so it's a fair guess as to it's dimensions there. The fact that it's "freestanding" with an integrated pole (if needed) is pretty big to me alongside that $650 price point. I'll share any updates I get from them.

I emailed mid-atlantic and they gave me the following specs:
Closed dimensions: 82Lx6Wx8H and 50 pounds. 1 year warranty
It is the same size as OVS and some vendors had OVS on sale for $650 but apparently that ran out some time today and is back up to $729. :mad:

Alia, not sure they are here yet. They could be on the water. Rex at Midguard adventure said they hope to have them on the next container. There is a YouTube video about them on the bush company's YouTube page.
