(Opinion) Buying a HDJ8X or not...

Instead of importing which is a PITA and always longer, harder and more expensive than you think, buy this one that’s already done: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/hzj-80-turbo-1997-40th-anniversary-e-lockers-utah.1121783/
That 80 has an HZ-T, not an HD motor, which is not comparable for many reasons - if you had a clue.

@Chris1900 - you should post up on MUD Diesel Section for opinions based on experience. Basically, you're not going to buy a 25 year old truck and drive off into the sunset unless your spending at least $35k - bone stock - which IMHO would still be a bargain. But, there is no replacement, except possibly the new G on factory portals for $500k.

To think "the 100 is the new 80" is laughable. And so would be comparing a 76 or 79 Series to an 80. To each there own and best of luck with your decision.

If I had a clue? OP asked for a diesel 80. That's a diesel 80, LHD, in Utah, ready to go, without having to import anything. If you had been reading this thread, you'd probably have a clue that the OP has moved on from his idea which is smart since there are virtually zero benefits to a diesel 80 for his use case. Thanks for your valuable insight though - very helpful!

Side note for the diesel 80 series, they’ve grown old hat here in Canada so they are not that much more then a gas LHD lx450. Then fly, buy, drive it home. Of course it’s a lifestyle vehicle now not a practical choice. There are some pretty minty 100 series out there now too.
