Our SMB

I thought we’d document the changes we’re making to our van. It’s a 2004 E350 Quigley 4x4 Sportsmobile. We sold our FJ Cruiser to buy this since we’ll be traveling full time after retirement. It was in great condition when we bought it, but some areas needed beefing up. This was it the day we bought it.

The first thing needed was bigger tires. It had a little bit of tail wagging the dog that needed addressing.

Next, after several recommendations, I took it to Jared Bratcher at Deviant Customs in Edmond, Ok. He installed the Agile Off Road R.I.P. kit to improve the suspension. He also installed the ARB OBA system.

Next some armor was needed. I had some special needs for the bumpers, so Jared is building them also. The front is close to being complete.

He’ll also be installing the Superwinch 12.5 Talon winch.

Sweet van!

Show us some interior shots!

How is your spare mounted? Are the rear doors still properly aligned?

I like the top. Is yours a diesel. I am guessing that your FJ was just a portion of the cost of this nice SMB, unless you got a crazy deal.

What size tires did you go with? They look like a perfect height without being extreme.

Thanks

Ours is a V10, and we did get a very good deal on it. We shopped for about 9 months online before this one popped up. The tires are 33" Duratracs on 17" wheels. The only way to really get a great deal on a SMB is to be prepared to buy immediately. If you have to wait for financing to approve, the great deal will disappear.

The bumpers are out of powder coat and installed. This is turning out great. There is still some plumbing and wiring to do, and sliders are still to be built. The swing arm video was for my wife. Having easy to use latches was very important to her. Please don’t take any thing said as a dig on Aluminess. I had their bumpers on my FJ Cruiser and really liked them. My wife never liked the latches though. They are kind of a pain to use.

Got the van hack today. I can’t tell uouuguys jiw pleased I am with it. The bumpers turned out great and it handles so much better with the Agile RIP kit. I’ll be taking it back in a month to get the sliders done and have home make any adjustments from the shakedown. Hopefully I’ll get the awning installed this weekend.
