Had my oldest boy help welding the underside of the bumper. I try to have him help when I can.

I like the incorporated fuel filler. While I dont need a fuel filler, I can imagine maybe putting something in that same spot to maybe refill a water tank.

That’s for my auxiliary transfer tank I installed. I found a rv water tank that will fit under my bench seat. Help keep it insulated being inside the van.

Is that two pieces of 2x4 or 2x3 tubing welded together? I love this idea. May have to steal it.

I just ordered two tire carrier hinge kits from EMS.

So I used two different size steel for the bumper
efa4e44c846a888af7fc381433fc8674.jpg

The back piece is .120 wall 2x8” tube with a piece of .120 wall 3x3” welded to it. The 8” tube is the same height as the factory bumper so it covered everything up giving a more finished look in my opinion.
The spare tire carrier is all made out of .120 wall 2x2.
The pelican case side is 2x2” .120 just for the arm. The upright for the case is 1.75”x1.75 .065.

The main bumper with out the arms weighs maybe 100#?
It’s bolted to the frame horn and also bolted to the bolts that hold the trailer hitch.

I like your design. I want to do something similar.

I would love to see how you tie to the hitch bolts.

Nothing super crazy just a some strap steel welded on and bolted through. Mostly took away any rocking.

Thanks so so much for all this info! Might pick your brain a little more this summer when we get to it but thanks for a great idea and clean execution.

I saw a guy around town the other day that was using his bumper as his compressed air tank and thought that was a nice idea too for that or water even for washing feet etc.

Water would be hard cause of corrosion. Air tank would be cool just have keep checking for pin hole leaks when welding.
