I just found one locally with 77k miles for $13k. I hope to take it for a test drive. Any complaints on these as daily drivers? I drive an XJ currently, and if i get this Id most likely do either an OME lift with 32s and daily it through Chicago weather

Anything major to look out with the CRD? Aside from leaks in the tank?

You need to get a Green Diesel engine tune...it will address the swirl flap issue and reduce EGR. Other than that it is a great engine.
Another thing to keep an eye out for is affectionately known as "black death" on these Mercedes OM642 engines. (Google it for scary pics!) You won't be able to see it unless you pull the engine cover and foam sound dampers... But you might smell diesel fumes if it's present. All it really is, is a leak between the injector and the cylinder head. It leaks combustion pressure and gasses. This is another reason why It's always good to have an experienced mechanic, and in this case a diesel specialist, do a thorough pre-purchase inspection.
Personally, i don't think it's a deal breaker on an otherwise good find. But it has the potential to be a costly fix, so that should factor in.
A slight disclaimer/story here...
I'm a fleet mechanic, and former European car specialist, so things like rust and body damage scare me, while i tend to dismiss most mechanical things as " Well, i can fix that..." Makes me awful at suggesting what to buy! Lol.
Anyway, I actually found out about this black death thing with my own CRD purchase... After... i drove it 1300 miles home from the dealer... I've had the parts to fix it for about 6000 miles now... So you can see how much this really concerns me...
But it really does need to get fixed. It only gets worse the longer it's left alone.

Yes, but I'm disappointed that it doesn't have Quadra-Drive II, it's the first one I've found without it. There's another with the same miles, and equipped the way I'd want for $2k less than yours. I'm in Ft Lauderdale so this one is also 3hrs closer to me.
I'm a pain in the *** enthusiast that would like a WK CRD, but doesn't NEED one.

You mean a seeping fuel injector? LoL
Every old Diesel I had at some point had some black crusty sepage on an injector at some point. No big deal. The bigger issue is that these transitional diesels were old designs being pushed with newer fuel systems. Todays designs are far better and will soon be out dated by clean diesel designs with all the silly exhaust stuff eliminated. Diesel just wasnt getting the development funding years ago. But is finally getting some much needed attention.
The new Diesel tech Mercedes is working on solves lots of the emmissions issues and related failures. Which will be really nice.
