Why a 6.0 is reported as a 5.4

I have noticed that many vans listed in the classifieds list their vans as being the 6.0 Powerstroke, yet when I check every one of them through the VIN#, it is listed as a 5.4-L V-8 SOHC 16V. Are they the same diesel engine?

5.4 is a gas.

Either swapped or more probable (Like x1000) incorrectly listed hoping someone gets there to look at and falls in love with it despite having the small gas engine.

I've seen this before, I believe it's caused by lazy DMV employees, if you call the dealer with the VIN they can give you the breakdown of the vehicle correctly.

Use "5.4-L V-8 SOHC 16V" as a search term,it is a gas engine.There was a 4.5L Diesel but I don't think it was in a Ford.

6.0 justifies higher and usually absurd asking price for a used van. Casual observer won't notice

Is there really a big criminal gang that tricks people into thinking they are looking at a 6.0 diesel and then gets them to buy a 5.4 gas van ??

The code is in the fourth through eight digits in the vin.

The problem is there are only 26 letters and 9 usable numbers so they get recycled from time to time and there is an issue with this.

My 1989 7.8 diesel was coming up as a gas engine at ford for a while until the software added the correct year break.

"I'm here to see the (insert car) you have advertised at this price"

"Sorry sir, we sold it an hour ago......but we do have a lower optioned model"

Had it happen twice.

First one 4wd isn’t much better than 2wd and then a 4.6 tows the same as a 5.4.
